Our philosophy on dog training is simple – When we train humans, the dogs will follow. Simply put, the majority of dog training is instructing the handler/owner on how to properly train and command their dog.
One of the first things you’ll hear our instructors say when they are starting a training session is how YOU, the handler, need to become the Alpha Dog to your canine. You are training the dog, not the other way around, which means you need to be in charge.
Dogs have a natural, inherent pack mentality. A dog pack has a hierarchy, starting with the Alpha Male or Alpha Female. We teach you how to be that “top dog” to your fur friend.
We never train with treats because, in our opinion, that leads to expectations. What happens when you are somewhere you need your dog to obey you and find yourself without treats? We train with praise and we train with corrections. What is that, you ask?
There are four components to training: Positive Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, Negative Reinforcement and Negative Punishment. We have added links to articles about each one that you can read to learn more about standard training techniques and how we use them in training your canine.
How each technique is used is dependent on the individual dog’s personality. What works for one dog might night work for another. Therefore, we individualize our training to the dog.
